Stanford's Monica Coughlan Named NCAA ELITE 88 Winner

STANFORD, Calif. - Stanford women's water polo student-athlete Monica Coughlan was honored at the National Collegiate Championship last weekend as the ELITE 88 award winner, given to the student-athletewith the highest cumulative grade-point average participating at the finals site for each of the NCAA's 88 championships.

To be eligible for the award, student-athletes must be at least a sophomore in academic and athletics standing, and in at least his or her second year of competition (in any sport) at his or her current institution.

Eligible student-athletes also must be an active member on the roster and a member of the designated squad size for the championship site.

Coughlan, a sophomore from Moraga, Calif., was honored at the championship banquet. An undeclared major, Coughlan boasts a 3.79 cumulative GPA. Last weekend she helped lead the Cardinal to a 26-3 record in 2010 and to a national runner-up finish at the championship tournament in San Diego.
