Watson Finishes Ninth, Cardinal 19th at NCAAs

WILMINGTON, NC-- Stanford's women's golf team carded a final round 290 (+2) to finish tied for 19th at the NCAA Championships held at the Country Club of Landfall in at 286 (-2). 

Purdue won the team event, finishing at 1153 (+1), which was good for a one stroke victory over USC.

Alabama (+5), Arizona State (+9) and Arizona (+14) rounded out the top five.

Oklahoma State's Caroline Hedwall won the individual title with a 12-under score of 276, edging Arizona State's Jennifer Johnson by four strokes for medalist honors.

The Cardinal turned in its best performance of the four day tournament in the final round, carding a two-over team score of 290.

Freshmen Sally Watson and Kristina Wong closed with a rush, carding final rounds of 66 and 67, respectively.

Watson's final round 66 earned her a ninth place finish with a two-under 286. Watson recorded seven birdies against just one bogey on her card on Friday, turning in her best round as a collegian.

Wong's final round 67 vaulted her up the leaderboard to 27th with a final 72-hole score of 293 (+5). She had seven birdies and just two bogies on her card today.

Junior Rebecca Durham, who started the tournament in impressive fashion with a one-under 71 in the first round, finished tied for 112th after her final round 83 left her at 311 (+23) for the tournament.

Senior Angela King closed out her Stanford career by finishing 121st at 318 (+30) after a final round 79.

Sophomore Sydney Burlison finished 124th at 325 (+37) after carding a final round 78.
