Eugene, Ore. - Saturday marked the completion of the NCAA Outdoor Championships as Arantxa King paced the Cardinal with her runner-up finish in the long jump. Both teams earned top-15 finishes as the Cardinal earned four more All-America performances.
The Cardinal men finished in a tie for eighth place with 22 points, while the women were 14th with 17.5 points. Texas A&M swept the top spot, winning both the men's and women's meet for a pair of NCAA titles.
King led the Cardinal with her runner-up finish in the long jump. The Cardinal junior jumped a personal best of 21-6 ¾, which also moved her to second on the Stanford all-time list. King earned the first All-America honor of her career.
The Cardinal men had three participants in the 5,000 meters with Chris Derrick leading the way. The Stanford sophomore placed fourth with a time of 13:49.11 to earn the sixth All-America honor of his career. Derrick tangled with the leaders for most of the race, before falling off the pace over the final 400 meters.
Jake Riley and Elliott Heath also competed in the event with Riley placing 10th and Heath 21st. Riley earned the second All-America honor of the meet after also placing third in the 10,000 meters on Thursday. Heath ran with the lead group for the first two miles and was the leader through 3,400 meters, but soon fell off the pace. Riley finished with a time of 13:55.80, while Heath was at 14:23.22.
Dylan Ferris competed in the 1,500 meters and finished ninth with a time of 3:48.95. Ferris hung with main pack as the pace was terribly slow through 800 meters. The pace quickened over the last lap and a half Ferris charged with the lead group, but fell to ninth in a furious group finish. Ferris earned the second All-America honor of his career and his first outdoors.
Saturday marked the completion of the NCAA meet and the conclusion of the collegiate season. The Cardinal will next be seen next fall during cross country.
