KENT, OHIO- No. 19 Stanford routed Robert Morris 5-1 on Monday afternoon in Kent, Ohio, completing an impressive sweep of its three-game, four-day road swing.
The Cardinal (5-1, 2-0 NorPac) has won three straight overall since its only loss: a 3-2 setback against No. 7 Michigan State that was tied until under two minutes remaining despite the Cardinal dominating all statistical categories.
The Colonials (2-4, 0-0 NEC) were overmatched from the start, with Stephanie Byrne scoring a goal 10 seconds into the game thanks to an assist from Colleen Ryan.
Stanford cruised from that point, outshooting Robert Morris 18-2 while holding an 8-1 edge in penalty corners.
Five different players scored, and that type of balanced offensive attack has quickly become a winning formula for Stanford this year.
Freshmen Elise Ogle and Hope Burke scored their second goals of the season, giving Stanford a 3-0 lead through the first 20 minutes.
Robert Morris cut the lead to 3-1 after a goal from Carole Vlerick in the 21st minute, but Stanford received scores from Katherine Swank and Devon Holman to round out the contest.
Ogle later added an assist while Becky Dru led all players with four shot attempts.
Julia LaSalvia earned the victory in the cage, making one save in the process.
Stanford is back in action on Sunday, Sept. 19, in a key conference matchup against California.
