STANFORD, Calif.- Jeremy Green figures he has the go-ahead to shoot once he crosses the half-court line. Stanford head coach Johnny Dawkins just smiled and nodded in agreement.
Landry Fields scored a career-high 32 points and Green was 3-of-4 from long range en route to 25 points in leading Stanford to an 84-69 victory over Oregon on Saturday evening.
"Coach hasn't said anything yet," Green said. "I just assume once I cross half court."
Green normally wins the shooting contests held after practice, and said he can make them from the opposite free throw line.
"Green was making some tough shots," Oregon head coach Ernie Kent said. "We have to get to him early. The game got away from us. We just have to get stops."
Drew Shiller added a couple of 3-pointers and scored 10 points for the Cardinal (10-9, 4-3 Pac-10), which beat the Ducks for the 24th straight time at home. Oregon has not won at Maples Pavilion since Jan. 13, 1986.
Fields, second in the conference with a 21.8 scoring average to Washington State's Klay Thompson's 22.3, has scored at least 14 points in every game this season and reached 20-plus for the 13th time. He also led Stanford with eight rebounds and five assists.
"He's just a great player," Dawkins said. "He's broken some barriers and it's only helping."
Tajuan Porter scored 16 points to lead Oregon (10-9, 2-5 Pac-10), which lost its fifth straight after a six-game winning streak. Jeremy Jacob added 11 and Malcolm Armstead had 12 points.
"Porter can score as fast as any young man I've ever seen," Dawkins said. "With him as a weapon they are capable of beating anybody."
Stanford never trailed after the first minute of the game.
"In the first half I thought we did a good job defensively," Dawkins said. "In the second half we had a good start, gained some momentum and played consistently after that."
Porter, who missed four games with an injury earlier in the season, was struggling from the field until late in the game. He missed his first six shots and then made five of six to reach double figures for the first time in four games and the 79th time in his career. He seems to be breaking out of a shooting slump. He was 5-of-13, though he's still a combined 11-of-39 from the floor (28 percent) over his last four games.
Porter made one of his previous 11 long-range shots before hitting three straight in the closing minutes.
The Cardinal bolted out of the locker room, outscoring Oregon 15-4 in the first six minutes of the second half to open a 20-point advantage. Fields and Green combined for 13 of those points.
Fields sank a leaning jumper in the lane in the closing seconds of the first half to give Stanford a 39-30 advantage into the break.
