La Qunita, Calif. - Freshman Cameron Wilson shot the low round of the day with a 5-under-par 67 to lead Stanford in the first round of The Prestige at PGA West. Wilson led Stanford to a combined score of 6-over-par 294 to sit in a tie for third with two rounds to play.

No. 22 California leads the tournament after one round, posting a score of 2-under-par 286. Arizona State is four shots back in second, while No. 21 Stanford, No. 7 Washington and No. 24 San Diego are tied for third, eight strokes back.

Wilson is playing just his second event as a collegiate. He made seven birdies, including closing with birdies at holes 1 and 2 due to the shotgun start.

"I am really excited to see Cameron lead the team in just his second event as a collegiate on such a difficult course," said head coach Conrad Ray.

Also playing well for the Cardinal was Andrew Yun, who shot 2-under-par 70. Yun closed with birdies on the difficult 17th and 18 for four on the day. He currently sits in a tie for sixth, just three strokes back of his teammate.

The other scoring golfers for the Cardinal were Steve Kearney and Steve Ziegler who shot 78 and 79, respectively. Kearney is tied for 57th, while Ziegler is tied for 64th.

Shane Lebow carded a round of 9-over 81, while Graham Brockington shot 87 playing as an individual.

"This is team golf," said Ray. "Tomorrow will be a better day for the other guys."

Round two begins at 12:30 back at PGA West on Monday. The Cardinal will look to climb up the leaderboard as it seeks its first tournament win of the new season.
