STANFORD, Calif.-- Cal won eight events and Stanford won another four on the first day of the four-team George Haines Invitational, with Kate Dwelley (50 fly), Liz Smith (200 breast), Andie Taylor (500 free) and Maya DiRado (200 back) all winning for Stanford.

In the evening session, Cal won six of seven events, winning both relays, the 100 medley (46.08) and the 100 free relays (42.07) and three individual events. Cal's Live Jensen (50 free), Caitlin Leverenz (50 breast) and Cindy Tran (50 back) all won night sessions.

Dwelley was the lone winner in the nightcap, winning the 50 fly with a time of 24.77. Dwelley was also second in the afternoon 500 free and third in the night 50 free, swimming in both relays as well in a busy night for the Cardinal captain.

Stanford won three of the five early session events, with Cal winning the other two.

Liz Smith won the 200 breast (2:12.90), the event she was a national runner-up in last March, finishing ahead of Leverenz (2:13.93), who was seventh at last year's NCAAs.

Stanford freshmen won the two earlier events. Maya DiRado won the 200 back (1:59.67), while Andie Taylor won the 500 free (4:47.65). It was Taylor's fourth win in two weeks, as she won three dual events against SJSU.

Stanford had four of the top-five 100 freestylers in the first event of the day, as Cal's Hannah Wilson led the field (50.19) and Stanford's Andi Murez was three hundreths behind (50.22) her for second. Cal's Amanda Sims won the 100 fly.

The George Haines Invite continues on Saturday with one session starting at 11 a.m.
