Cardinal Lead Fall Women's Conference Championships

Oct. 30, 2010

REDWOOD SHORES, Calif. / NEW LONDON, Conn.-- Stanford Sailing pulled away to lead the first of two days of sailing at the Pacific Coast Conference Fall Women's Championships, while over at Connecticut College, Stanford is sixth at the Victorian Coffee Urn.

On its home course, Stanford and the Wahine were within a couple of points of one another over the first eight races, before two wins by the Sally Mace's team and another win by Molly McKinney's team put the Cardinal ahead to close out the day.

Both divisions finished first or second seven times in 10 races, finishing with 24 and 19 points respectively for 43 points.

Over in the Nutmeg State, the Cardinal are sixth of 18 teams, tallying 95 points after six races. The A Division team skippered by Eliza Richartz at the New England Women's Championships tallied the fifth-best score (50), finishing in the top-10 in four of six races.

The B Division team skippered by Hannah Burroughs finished sixth or better in four of six races. If not for the 17th place finish in race three, the team likely would have been in the top-five. She still skippered the team to a fifth place divisional finish after day one.

Both races conclude on Sunday. The three-day singlehanded nationals is at the University of South Florida next weekend, with freshmen Oliver Toole, Sally Mace and Molly McKinney all set to compete.
