PACIFIC PALISADES, Calif.- Senior Hilary Barte and sophomore Mallory Burdette are the lone Cardinal players in action at the Riviera/ITA All-American Championships in Pacific Palisades, Calif., as main draw competition in singles and doubles continued Thursday.
Both players are featured in the singles draw, with Barte earning the event's No. 2 seed while Burdette emerged as a qualifier after rattling off three straight victories during the qualifying round.
Barte coasted past South Florida's Irene Rehberger 6-1, 6-1 on Thursday afternoon and next meets the winner of Marshall's Michaela Kissell and Penn's Connie Hsu. Burdette outlasted Iowa's Sonja Molnar 6-1, 4-6, 7-5 on Thursday in her first match and now must take on Kristy Frilling of Notre Dame.
Barte and Burdette are also teaming up in doubles and earned a first-round bye as the event's No. 3 seed. The duo will next face Virginia's Emily Fraser and Hana Tomljanovic on Friday.
