STANFORD, Calif.- Katherine Donner scored twice to lead a second-half scoring barrage, pacing No. 17 Stanford to a 6-0 shutout of Harvard on Friday night at the Varsity Turf.
Stanford (8-3, 3-1 NorPac) won its third straight game, matching its season-high win total. Harvard (3-8, 1-2 Ivy League) has dropped eight of its last nine games.
After scoring on its first possession of the contest, the Cardinal was held scoreless and carried a 1-0 lead into halftime. But Stanford erupted for five goals over the final 35 minutes, outshooting Harvard 14-0 and owning a 10-0 advantage in penalty corners during that stretch.
For the game, Stanford outshot Harvard 22-2, with the Crimson attempting two harmless shots in the first half. The Cardinal also held a 13-1 edge in penalty corners, repeatedly putting pressure on the Harvard defense.
Becky Dru and Stephanie Byrne each dished out two assists while Dru led all players with seven shot attempts.
Alysha Sekhon scored her first goal of the season to put Stanford up 1-0 in the first minute, taking a pass from Byrne and tapping in a goal from outside the cage. The Cardinal had other first-half opportunities, but was unable to convert.
In the 41st minute, Dru put Stanford ahead 2-0, scoring on a textbook penalty corner set-up with assists from Kelsey Lloyd and Camille Gandhi.
Seven minutes later, Katherine Donner tallied her first goal of the year when she knocked in a loose ball with Katherine Swank getting the assist. It would end up being the first of two scores for Donner, who also scored with five minutes left on another tip-in near the cage.
Xanthe Travlos and Hope Burke also scored goals in a six-minute stretch midway through the second half, rounding out the scoring for Stanford.
Alessandra Moss and Julia LaSalvia split time in goal, with Moss playing the first 47 minutes and making one save.
