SANTA BARBARA, Calif.-- Stanford Sailing closed out the fall schedule with a second place finish at the Pacific Coast Conference two-day Dinghy Championships, falling to the host Gauchos for the conference title.
Oliver Toole, who finished the first day ahead of the pack in the laser division, returned to first on the final race, No. 13 when he won against Oregon's junior Elliott Drake. Overall Stanford had 160 points, UCSB had 121.
Toole finished in the top-four in 11 of the 13 races, but was sixth in back-to-back races, as Drake came roaring back to take a late lead with three wins in four races.
The B Division two-sailor team, skippered by Mateo Vargas, finished third with 46 points, one point out of second. Vargas and Rebecca King never finished lower than seventh in any of the 13 races.
The A Division, despite finishing in the top-six in eight races, also finished near the back of the pack in another three, as the team finished with 87 points, fourth in its division.
Stanford and Cal compete in the seventh annual Big Sail on Tuesday out of St. Francis Yacht Club starting at noon.
