Stanford Rally Falls Short Against Murray State, 55-52

ANAHEIM, Calif. (AP) -B.J. Jenkins scored 15 points, including two free throws in the final 25 seconds, as Murray State held on for a 55-52 victory over Stanford on Thursday night in the first round of the 76 Classic.

The Racers (3-1) led 29-18 at halftime and scored 18 points off 18 turnovers by the Cardinal (3-1).

Dwight Powell led Stanford with a career-high 16 points and scored 12 of Stanford's 18 points in the first half. Josh Owens finished with 10 points and five rebounds before fouling out with 5:28 left.

Isaiah Canaan, who scored eight points, made two free throws with 13.8 seconds left to put the Racers ahead 53-49.

Stanford's leading scorer, Jeremy Green, scored all nine of his points on three 3-pointers in the final minute.

Murray State, which led by as many as 14 points in the first half, made 18 of 23 free throws.

NOTES: Stanford was playing on Thanksgiving for the first time since Nov. 23, 2000. On that particular Turkey Day, the Cardinal defeated Old Dominion 84-60 in the opening round of the Puerto Rico Shootout ... Stanford trailed by 11 at halftime and as much as 14 points in the first half. But over the final 20 minutes, the Cardinal shot 46.2 percent and limited the Racers to just 31.8 percent shooting ... Dwight Powell is now averaging 11.3 points per game while shooting 69.2 percent (18-26) from the field ... Josh Owens reached double-figures for the 10th time in his career and first since pouring in 14 points against UCLA on Feb. 26, 2009 ... Jeremy Green knocked down three more triples, and is now 12-26 from beyond the arc this year ... Stanford has forced at least 15 turnovers in all four games this year ... The Cardinal finished the first half with just 18 points, its lowest output in a half since scoring 18 points over the first 20 minutes against Washington State on Feb. 11, 2010 ...
