McKinney Sixth at Singlehanded Nationals

TAMPA, Fla.-- Stanford's Molly McKinney finished in sixth place at the National Singlehanded Championships, leading three Cardinal at the three-day event in the Sunshine State.

With temperatures in the mid-60s and up to 11 mph winds out of the North Northeast on the final day, McKinney tallied 106 points over the 18 races, while teammate Sally Mace was ninth with 171 points among the 18 women's competitors. Oliver Toole finished 13th with 196 points over 18 men's races.

Stanford also was the winner at the Freshman Intersectional at Connecticut College, producing the top two scores at 78 and 88 ponits repectively, over the 18 races.

McKinney, who finished second at the Pacific Coast Conference Championships to Mace to reach the finals, nearly caught the Coast Guard's Krysta Rohde for fifth, coming within two points of the top-five with two races to go. Rohde though finished second and seventh, while McKinney was fourth and 12th as the Coast Guard senior extended her lead over the Stanford freshman to finish with 97 points.

McKinney finished in the top half of the standings 15 times, finishing nine points out of the top-five. McKinney finished fifth or better 12 times.

Mace remained in ninth place over the three day competition finishing in the top-nine 13 times.

Toole, the PCC champion, finished in the back hand of the standings 11 times to finish with 196 points.
