INDIANAPOLIS (AP) - Matt Howard opened the second half with 10 straight points and finished with 27, leading Butler to an 83-50 rout of Stanford on Saturday.
It was the first time CBS televised a game from Hinkle Fieldhouse, and the Bulldogs (6-4) rekindled images of last season's run to the national championship game with their biggest win of the season.
Shelvin Mack added 14 points and Andrew Smith had 10 for Butler, which outscored the Cardinal 28-10 in the paint.
Stanford (6-3) was led by Jeremy Green with 16 points but shot just 31.4 percent.
Butler took control with a 20-4 run midway through the first half, led by 19 at halftime and put it away when Howard outscored the Cardinal 10-0 to open the second half. That made it 51-22 with 17:15 left.
Stanford was the first Pac-10 team to visit Butler since Southern Cal in 1965.
