AUSTIN, Texas--  No. 18-ranked Stanford (4-2) dropped its second straight in the Lone Star State, falling 6-3 at No. 3-ranked Texas (4-2) on Saturday afternoon.

The Cardinal closed to within 4-3 in the top of the sixth, before reliever Brian Busick gave up a two-run, two-out double to Brandon Loy to put Texas in front, 6-3. Reliever Danny Sandbrink had walked the previous two batters after getting the first two outs in the inning.

Stanford chipped away at an early 3-0 lead by Texas with an RBI fielder's choice in the third and a fifth inning sacrifice fly by Stephen Piscotty. An RBI groundout by Jonathan Kaskow closed the deficit to 4-3 in the sixth.

Stanford starter Scott Snodgress (0-1) had balked the fourth run in, in the fourth, to make it 4-1, after Texas went 3-0 after the first two innings.

Brandon Workman (1-0) went the first five innings for the win, striking out six as three Longhorns combined on an eight hitter. Chance Ruffin, who came on after Kaskow's groundout, pitched the final 3.2 shutout innings for his first save.

LHP Brett Mooneyham (0-0, 5.06) will twirl in the series finale at 11 a.m. PT on Sunda. The Cardinal return home for an exhibition game with Rukkyo-Japan on Tuesday at 2:30 p.m., before traveling to UC Davis for a 2 p.m.  Game on Wednesday. Stanford hosts UC Santa Barbara next weekend.
