AUSTIN, Texas-- Reliever Cole Green (2-0) pitched five perfect innings and No. 3-ranked Texas (5-2) swept visiting No. 18-ranked Stanford (4-3) with a 8-2 Sunday victory.
Brett Mooneyham (0-1) took the loss, giving up six runs on seven hits over the first five innings. The left hander struck out seven and walked three.
After Stanford closed to within 3-2, Mooneyham gave up three runs in the fourth to make it 6-3. Kyle Lusson's two-run triple, followed by a Mooneyham balk doubled the score for the Longhorns.
Texas pitching meanwhile saw starter Austin Dicharry get an inning ending double play in the fourth, before Green relieved him and retired the final 15 in a row.
Tyler Gaffney's first career hit, a double off the top of the wall, drove in the first Cardinal run in the second, before Colin Walsh's third inning single made it 3-2.
Russell Moldenhaur's two-run homer in the first capped a three run inning for Texas. UT added two runs in the eighth after Alex Pracher pitched two perfect relief innings before getting into trouble.
The Cardinal return home for an exhibition game with Rukkyo-Japan on Tuesday at 2:30 p.m., before traveling to UC Davis for a 2 p.m. contest on Wednesday. Stanford hosts UC Santa Barbara next weekend before taking a break for finals until March 19.
