MARYLAND-- The Stanford women are in 10th place at the St. Mary's College of Maryland Regatta, paced by its “A” Division team which is in sixth place within its division amongst the 18 competitors. Down the highway at the four-division Truxtun Umsted, hosted by Navy, the Cardinal are in 17th place out of 20 teams with 416 points.
Eliza Richartz and Rebecca King have combined for 30 points, paced by a win in the opening race, and a seventh and sixth place showing amongst the four races. The “B” Division skippered by Hannah Burroughs has 41 points, ninth in its division, giving the Cardinal 71 points. The host Seahawks lead the event with 43 points
Brown leads the field with 229 points at Navy, with Washington and Stanford as the only West Coast teams in the race.
Stanford's best score came from its “D” laser division team, skippered by Nick Dugdale. In eight races, he won the sixth race, and was third and fourth in two others. If not for one did not finish, Dugdale's 62 points would have been even lower, more than likely putting him in second amongst the 20 teams within the division, instead of tied for fifth.
Amongst the “A” and “B” division two-sailor teams, skippered by Peter Stemler and Ben Pedrick, respectively, the Cardinal's best finish was 11th by Stemler and Iris Clayer in the third race, and Pedrick and Kate Jewett for 12th in race seven. The “A” division has 130 points, the “B” division, 117 points.
Oliver Riihiluoma tallied 107 points over his eight races in the “C” division, finishing seventh and fifth in back-to-back races.
Both regattas continue on Sunday in Maryland.
