STOCKTON, Calif.-- Pacific (13-7) scored six runs over the fifth and sixth innings as the Tigers split the midweek series with a 9-4 win over visiting No. 19-ranked Stanford (10-5) on Tuesday evening.
John Haberman (1-0) pitched five innings, giving up three runs on eight hits for the win. Hunter Carnevale pitched the final 3.2 innings for his second save.
Stanford left hander Brett Mooneyham (0-3), in a predetermined start, gave up two runs on two hits in the first as the Tigers took an early 2-0 lead. Reliever Brian Busick then gave up his first run in five appearances, a span of 10 innings, when the Tigers went up 3-1 in the third.
An RBI single by Stanford cathcer Zach Jones cut the UOP lead to 3-2 in the fifth prior to the Tiger rally of three runs a piece over the next two innings to lead 9-3.
Stanford had 14 hits on the night, its eighth game in double digits, but also left 14 on base.
A one-out error by second baseman Colin Walsh led to three runs in the fifth, as the Tigers scored three runs after two were out, to make it 6-2. UOP then added another two more runs in the sixth. Four of UOP's first six runs were unearned.
The Cardinal won the first game between the two Northern California programs on February 23 at Stanford, 11-6.
The Cardinal begin Pac-10 play this weekend with a three-game series at home with the University of Southern California on Friday at 5:30 p.m and Saturday and Sunday at 1 p.m.
