CORVALLIS, Ore.-- Jake Schlander went 3-for-5 with six RBIs and a two-run homer (3) as Stanford (16-13, 5-5 Pac-10) won 14-6 at No. 14-ranked Oregon State (20-9, 3-4 Pac-10) to open a three-game series in the Pacific Northwest.
Jonathan Kaskow drove in an additional four runs, going 2-for-4, as Stanford pounded out a season-high 19 hits after 18 hits on Tuesday at Santa Clara.
The Cardinal scored five times in the seventh and five more runs in the eighth in a wild back-and-forth game, that saw Stanford lead 4-0 with four first inning runs and OSU lead 6-4 with six fifth inning runs.
Colin Walsh and Tyler Gaffney added three hits a piece as freshman Chris Reed (1-0) picked up his first win following a scoreless seventh. Mark Appel pitched the final three scoreless innings for his first career save.
Kaskow and Schlander twice gave the Cardinal leads in the first and seventh innings.
In a five-run seventh, Kaskow's two-run double off of reliever Kraig Sitton (1-1) followed by Schlander's two-run homer (3) off of reliever Kevin Rhoderick gave Stanford a 9-6 lead.
The duo had already delivered in the first as Kaskow's two-run double followed by Schlander's two-run single made it 4-0 in the first.
In the eighth, after Kaskow was intentionally walked to load the bases, Schlander's single up the middle plated two to make it 12-6. Kenny Diekroeger then followed with a two-run single to make it 14-6.
OSU had scored six times in the fifth to lead 6-4, as OSU starter Greg Peavey settled down after the first, giving it over to the bullpen with a 6-4 lead. Neither Sitton or Rhoderick could sustain the lead, after Stanford starter Brett Mooneyham could got get the final out in the fifth.
Mooneyham, who had allowed just an infield single over the first four innings, allowed five Beavers to reach base after the second out, a sacrifice fly, made it 4-1. Mooneyham walked four in the inning, three with two outs, and gave up three doubles, as a three-run double by Stefen Romero made it 5-4. Reliever Dean McArdle finally got the final out, after 11 men were sent to the plate, amd a two-out single off of McArdle made it 6-4.
Walsh made two nice defensive plays at second, backhanding a ball headed up the middle in the first and diving behind second base in the sixth, before getting up and throwing out Park Berberet.
This six RBIs by Schlander were the most since Brett Milleville drove in seven last year against New Mexico in May.
The series will be continued on Saturday at 2 p.m with Jordan Pries (3-1, 3.06) twirling for the Cardinal. Sunday's game has been moved forward to 12:30 p.m.
