HONOLULU-- Stanford Sailing won its second Pacific Coast Collegiate Sailing Conference title on Sunday, outdistancing USC by 14 points and qualifying for the coed national semifinals in May.
Nick Dugdale and Justin Doane skippered the “A” division team to a third place divisional finish, crewing with Hannah Burroughs, while the “B” division squad of Peter Stemler and Katie Jewett won their division.
Dugdale and Doane's boats finished with 66 pints, finishing second six times and in the top-three a total of 11 times in the 16 races. Stemler led the "B" division to six wins, incluidng the last four in a row. Stemler and Jewett never finished lower than sixth in any of the 16 races.
This is the second straight weekend the Cardinal have won a conference title, last weekend it won the PCCSC team championship for head coach John Vandemoer.
Stanford, USC, UC Irvine and Hawaii all qualify for the national semifinals on May 1 and 2. The national championships are June 1-3 in Madison, WI.
