SEATTLE-- Needing a strong finish to move on, Stanford Sailing won the tenth and final race to secure one of nine berths into the dinghy national championships in June.

Justin Doane and Katie Jewett secured the No. 9 spot for 175 total points, ahead of Miami's 182 points and Eckerd's 186 points.

To set up the final race, the “B” division squad placed ninth in the second to last race, three points ahead of the Hurricanes and four ahead of the Tritons. Doane and Jewett won the final race, as Miami finished sixth and Eckerd was seventh. The duo have never finished better than sixth until the final race. The duo finished with 82 points, the “A” division had 93 points.

Stanford, Miami and Eckerd batted for that final spot, as Stanford moved into ninth place for good, late in the day.

The “A” division team, skippered by Nick Dugdale scored two big scores in the seventh and eighth races. The Cardinal were fifth followed by a second place showing to move past Miami and into ninth place.

The western nine will join nine teams from the eastern semifinals from Charleston, SC for the championships June 1-3 in Madison, WI.
