NORTHRIDGE, Calif. - Spencer McLachlin had 15 kills and only two attacking errors to lead No. 2 Stanford to a 25-19, 27-25, 25-22 victory over No. 13 Cal State Northridge on Friday night in a rematch of last year's Mountain Pacific Sports Federation Tournament final.

The Cardinal (5-1 overall, 4-1 MPSF) hit .349 as a team while holding the Matadors (2-6, 1-4) to .194. McLachlin keyed the Stanford attack with a .520 hitting percentage.

Brad Lawson had 14 kills for Stanford, a team in the midst of a stretch in which it plays seven matches in seven cities over 16 days while covering 9,186 miles. This was Match No. 3 in that journey, which continues with a Saturday match at Long Beach State at 1 p.m.

Freshman Steven Irvin earned his second start of the season at outside hitter and picked up seven kills, six digs and five blocks. Setter Evan Barry had 43 assists, three digs and two blocks.
