No. 1 Stanford Easily Moves On During ITA Kick-Off Weekend

Jan. 28, 2011

STANFORD, Calif.- No. 1 Stanford wasted little time in dispatching of No. 65 Cal Poly, coasting to a 4-0 victory on Friday afternoon at the Taube Family Tennis Stadium on the opening day of ITA Kick-Off Weekend.

Stanford (2-0, 0-0 Pac-10) advances to face No. 39 Oklahoma on Saturday at 2 p.m. on the stadium courts. The Sooners defeated No. 29 UNLV by a 4-1 count late Friday evening. Meanwhile, Cal Poly and UNLV will square off on Saturday at 2 p.m. at Taube South.

Stanford is serving as one of 15 host sites around the nation during ITA Kick-Off Weekend, which features four teams vying to advance to the National Team Indoor Championships next month in Charlottesville, Va.

The Cardinal has now won 166 consecutive matches (134 regular season, 32 NCAA Tournament) on its home court- a streak that spans nearly 12 seasons and is the longest active home winning streak among all sports in Division I athletics. The Cardinal has not lost at the Taube Family Tennis Stadium since a 5-4 setback against No. 4 California back on Feb. 27, 1999.

The doubles point was decided quickly, with Stanford sweeping all three spots.

Stacey Tan notched a 6-1, 6-0 victory on court four to put Stanford ahead 2-0. Playing at the No. 3 position for the first time this year, Nicole Gibbs defeated Ashley Pane 6-0, 6-3 for a 3-0 lead.

Veronica Li then wrapped up the match with a 6-1, 6-0 win on court five.
