STANFORD, Calif.- No. 8 Stanford blanked No. 54 Santa Clara 4-0 on Friday afternoon at the Taube Family Tennis Stadium during the opening day of ITA Kick-Off Weekend.
Stanford (2-0, 0-0 Pac-10) advances in the tournament and will battle No. 41 Nebraska on Saturday at 11 a.m. on the stadium courts. The Huskers defeated No. 38 Vanderbilt 4-2 on Friday. Meanwhile, Santa Clara and Vanderbilt will square off on Saturday at 11 a.m.
Stanford is serving as one of 15 host sites around the nation during ITA Kick-Off Weekend, which features four teams vying to advance to the National Team Indoor Championships next month in Seattle, Wash.
The Cardinal looked sharp and made quick work of the Broncos (3-1, 0-0 WCC), despite experiencing a two hour, 20 min. match delay until the courts became playable due to wet conditions overnight.
Stanford picked up doubles wins on courts one and three, with the result at No. 2 being abandoned when the point was secured.
Ryan Thacher and Greg Hirshman followed with 6-2, 6-2 victories at the Nos. 2 and 5 spots, giving a Stanford a 3-0 lead.
Bradley Klahn clinched the match with a 6-4, 6-4 triumph at the No. 1 position over Kyle Dandan.
