STANFORD, Calif.- No. 8 Stanford put away No. 41 Nebraska 6-1 on Saturday afternoon at the Taube Family Tennis Stadium to sweep both of its matches during ITA Kick-Off Weekend.
Winning its third match in five days, the Cardinal (3-0, 0-0 Pac-10) now punches its ticket to the National Team Indoor Championships, to be played Feb. 18-21 in Seattle, Wash.
Stanford blanked No. 54 Santa Clara 4-0 on Friday afternoon to reach the second round, then overpowered Nebraska in singles on Saturday to advance. The Huskers were coming off a 4-2 win over Vanderbilt on Friday afternoon.
It took Stanford just 42 minutes to claim the doubles point, winning at the top two spots of the lineup.
Greg Hirshman followed with a 6-3, 6-0 victory at the No. 5 spot, and Ryan Thacher put the Cardinal ahead 3-0 with a 6-3, 6-2 triumph over Calin Paar at the No. 2 position.
Bradley Klahn then held off a challenge from Christopher Aumueller in a battle of No. 1's, with Klahn prevailing 7-6 (0), 7-6 (4).
Nebraska picked up its only point of the match with a win on court six to wrap up the match.
Stanford is back in action on Feb. 3, hosting Texas Tech at 1:30 p.m.
