STANFORD, Calif.- No. 1 Stanford remained undefeated following a 7-0 victory over No. 28 SMU on Thursday afternoon at the Taube Family Tennis Stadium.
Stanford (5-0, 0-0 Pac-10) swept all three doubles matches to take a 1-0 lead and clinched the victory when Stacey Tan edged Aleksandra Malyarchikova 6-4, 7-6 (7) on court five.
Even two late matches that were in question worked out in Stanford's favor. Nicole Gibbs shook off a 6-2 first set loss and bounced back to claim the next two sets 6-3, 6-2 at the No. 2 spot. Meanwhile over on court four, Mallory Burdette held off a late charge from Shahzoda Hatamova to post a 7-5, 7-5 win.
Stanford has now won 169 matches in a row on its home court.
SMU fell to 5-2.
Stanford is back in action next week, competing at the National Team Indoor Championships.
