CHARLOTTESVILLE, Va.- No. 1 Stanford won its seventh straight game to open the year, defeating No. 8 Michigan 4-1 on Saturday afternoon in the quarterfinals of the ITA National Team Indoor Championships.
Despite dropping the doubles point for only the second time this year, the Cardinal (7-0, 0-0 Pac-10) ripped off four straight singles wins to secure the match.
Second-ranked Hilary Barte provided the clincher with a 6-2, 6-4 victory over No. 8 Denise Muresan at the No. 1 spot of the lineup in a battle of top-10 players.
