SEATTLE- One day after suffering its first loss of the year, No. 7 Stanford rebounded nicely for a 4-3 victory over No. 2 USC on Saturday afternoon in the consolation round of the ITA National Team Indoor Championships.
Stanford (8-1, 0-0 Pac-10) jumped out to a 3-0 lead but managed to hang on for a hard-fought victory over USC (7-2, 0-0 Pac-10).
The Cardinal claimed the doubles point, collecting the decisive victory on court three thanks to a 9-7 win by Matt Kandath and Denis Lin.
Greg Hirshman booked a 6-4, 6-1 win at the No. 5 spot and Ryan Thacher followed with a 6-4, 6-4 triumph at the No. 2 position to give Stanford a 3-0 advantage.
But the Trojans rallied, snagging wins at the Nos. 1, 3 and 6 spots.
Denis Lin's 6-2, 2-6, 6-3 victory over Emilio Gomez on court four proved to be the difference.
