No. 2 Stanford Blanks No. 71 Utah 6-0 After Layoff

March 21, 2011

STANFORD, Calif.- Back on the court for the first time in two weeks, No. 2 Stanford posted a 6-0 victory over No. 71 Utah on Monday afternoon at the Taube Family Tennis Stadium.

Playing its first match since defeating California 5-2 back on Mar. 5, the Cardinal (14-0, 2-0 Pac-10) remained unbeaten on the season.

Also, Stanford extended its NCAA-record home winning streak to an eye-popping 174 consecutive matches (142 regular season, 32 NCAA Tournament)- a streak that now spans 12 seasons and is recognized as the longest active home winning streak among all sports in Division I athletics. The Cardinal has not lost at the Taube Family Tennis Stadium since a 5-4 setback against No. 4 California back on Feb. 27, 1999.

Utah (5-8, 0-0 Pac-10) was facing an even longer layoff, having not taken the court since defeating Auburn 4-1 back on Feb. 27.

With rain in the forecast, singles was played first and the teams decided not to play the doubles point.

All six Stanford players won in straight sets, starting with Stacey Tan's 6-4, 6-1 victory at No. 5 and ending with Carolyn McVeigh's 6-3, 6-4 triumph on court six.

Stanford next embarks on a three-game road swing, facing Pepperdine (Mar. 23), UCLA (Mar. 25) and USC (Mar. 26).
