No. 7 Stanford Knocks Off Cincinnati To Move To 7-0

Cincinnati, Ohio - No. 7 Stanford improved to a perfect 7-0 with a 20-8 win over Cincinnati on Tuesday afternoon. The Cardinal jumped out to a quick lead and never looked back, dominating the Bearcats for the full 60 minutes.

"I am really proud of the team's energy coming off the break, especially in the second half," said head coach Amy Bokker. "We had a ton of contributors on the offensive end and it was a great full-field team effort.

Stanford got the game's first goal as Sarah Flynn scored her first of five on the day. The assist came from Lauren Schmidt, who had a big day with four goals and two assists.

Freshman Rachel Ozer added a goal three minutes later and Anna Boeri made it 3-0 Cardinal at the 21:15 mark in the first half. Cincinnati would respond with a goal, but never got closer than down by two the rest of the game.

At one point, the Cardinal scored nine of ten goals to push the lead to 14-5 early in the second half. Along with the five goals from Flynn and four from Schmidt, Leslie Foard added a hat trick, while Ann Kim, Ozer and Maria Fortino had multiple-goal games.

Jacqueline Candelaria and Karen Nesbitt joined Schmidt with two assists as the high-powered Stanford offense fired off 40 shots to just 19 from the Bearcats.

The Cardinal also dominated possession, winning the 20 draw controls compared to 10 from Cincinnati. Flynn had four draw controls to lead the way, while Kim had three and five others had two.

Annie Read earned her seventh victory in goal with an uneventful first half. Lyndsey Munoz came on to play the second period and made four saves.

The Cardinal will now travel to Louisville to take on the Cardinals on Thursday at 2pm, PST. The game will be a matchup of two of the seven remaining unbeaten teams in the nation.
