DAVIS, Calif. - No. 1 Stanford finished off its weekend with a 12-6 non-conference victory at No. 15 UC Davis Sunday afternoon, extending the Cardinal's season-opening winning streak to 18 games.
Stanford (18-0, 3-0 MPSF) will hit the road for Southern California next weekend, visiting No. 3 USC Saturday afternoon for a 12 p.m. contest, then finishing the weekend Sunday at 12 p.m. at No. 12 UC Irvine.
After the Cardinal defense stole the show in Saturday's home win over UCLA, the offense grabbed the limelight in Davis Sunday. Annika Dries and Alyssa Lo each scored four times, while Melissa Seidemann also had a hat trick with three goals and Kaley Dodson added a goal.
Goalies Kate Baldoni and Amber Oland each played a half in the game. Baldoni started the contest and made seven saves before giving way to Oland, who stopped six UC Davis shots in her 16 minutes of action.
Seidemann and Lo got the scoring started Sunday before Davis' Jessica Dunn halved the lead with 4:23 to go in the opening period. But the Cardinal would answer with four straight goals over the rest of the period and start of the second, as all four of the Cardinal's scorers on the day contributed a goal to the run.
A 3-0 run that included two goals from Lo would end the second period as the Cardinal took a 9-2 advantage into the break.
A pair of Cardinal goals in the third period sandwiched an Alicia Began score for the Aggies, and despite three Aggie goals in the final frame, it was not enough as Stanford took home the 12-6 decision.
