No. 2 Women's Tennis Defeats San Francisco 5-2

March 3, 2011

STANFORD, Calif.- No. 2 Stanford remained unbeaten after posting a 5-2 victory over San Francisco on Thursday afternoon at the Taube Family Tennis Stadium.

Showcasing an unfamiliar lineup that featured two players making their dual match season debuts, the Cardinal (12-0, 2-0 Pac-10) still wasted little time in putting away the Dons (2-7, 0-0 WCC).

Stanford extended its NCAA-record home winning streak to an unthinkable 172 consecutive matches (140 regular season, 32 NCAA Tournament)- a streak that now spans 12 seasons and is recognized as the longest active home winning streak among all sports in Division I athletics. The Cardinal has not lost at the Taube Family Tennis Stadium since a 5-4 setback against No. 4 California back on Feb. 27, 1999.

That streak will be put to the test on Saturday afternoon when the No. 6 Golden Bears make their way to campus. But on Thursday against San Francisco, it was all Stanford.

Singles was played first, with the Cardinal taking four matches from the start. Jennifer Yen's 6-4, 6-2 victory over Cecilia Gratian at the No. 4 position gave Stanford a 4-0 lead.

Amelia Herring and Natalie Dillon made their season debuts at the Nos. 5 and 6 spots of the lineup.

Stanford swept all three doubles matches, dropping only three games combined.
