Columbus, Ohio - No. 9 Stanford stayed undefeated, improving to 6-0 by knocking off Canisius, 15-7. The neutral-site game was played at Ohio State with the Cardinal dominating play from start to finish. Stanford outshot the Golden Griffins 41-20 on the way to the comfortable victory.
"I am really happy about how we performed on our first road trip," said head coach Amy Bokker one day after also defeating Ohio State. "We got a lot of offensive production and our defense is back in a good place."
Stanford got off to a sluggish start, conceding the first two goals of the game. The game remained 2-0 all the way to the 11:17 mark in the first half before Stanford got on the board. Emilie Boeri got Stanford going and her teammates would respond, scoring five consecutive goals before the half.
Leslie Foard tied the game at two with a free-position shot, and then Jacqueline Candelaria put Stanford ahead with an unassisted goal. Anna Boeri and Sarah Flynn added goals just before the half and Stanford led 5-2 at the break. The Cardinal outshot Canisius 21-5 in the half, but Golden Griffin goalkeeper Allison Daley was on point, making 11 saves in the half.
The Stanford onslaught continued in the second half as the Cardinal scored eight of nine goals to begin the half to build a commanding 12-3 lead. Karen Nesbitt, Anna Kim and Lauren Schmidt joined the goal scoring during the run. Canisius showed some life in the final 10 minutes, but Stanford's lead was too big and it cruised to a 15-7 victory.
Foard and Emilie Boeri continued their dynamic early-season offensive production as Foard had a hat trick and an assist, while Boeri had two goals and an assist. Foard leads Stanford with 16 goals and 22 points already this season, while Boeri has 15 goals and 21 points.
Also with multiple goals on Sunday were Anna Kim, Sarah Flynn, Anna Boeri and Jacqueline Candelaria who also had a team high two assists and continues to provide a scoring spark off the bench.
The Cardinal defense also put together a second-straight strong effort this weekend, holding Canisius to just seven goals and allowing just 12 over the two games. Annie Read played all 60 minutes in goal, recording eight saves and improving to 6-0.
Stanford will now have two weeks without a game as dead week and finals approach. It will next compete back in the state of Ohio on March 22 when it takes on Cincinnati as a part of a three game road swing that also includes Louisville and Vanderbilt.
