STANFORD, Calif.- Another week, another set of honors for incoming Stanford freshman Chasson Randle.
After leading Rock Island High School to its first state title in school history in last month's Illinois Class 3A championship game, Randle continues to rack up individual accolades at a rapid pace.
The latest coming last week, as Randle was named co-Mr. Basketball in Illinois, along with Aurora East High School's Ryan Boatright. It marks the first time in the history of the award there has been a tie, as both players received 35 first-place votes.
The prestigious Mr. Basketball award is the most recent honor in a lengthy list of accolades Randle has received this year. Also named Gatorade Illinois Basketball Player of the Year and Illinois Basketball Services large-school Player of the Year, Randle averaged 22.3 points and 7.7 rebounds as a senior and finished his career as Rock Island High School's all-time leading scorer and rebounder.
A three-time Class 3A All-State First Team selection, Randle was also named the Champaign News-Gazette's Mr. Basketball for Illinois, becoming the first local player to earn the award in its 29-year history. Randle is also the 12th non-Chicago winner and the first from the Western Big 6 Conference.
Randle has been tabbed a first-team selection by the Associated Press, Illinois Basketball Coaches Association, Chicago Tribune and Chicago Sun-Times. The 6-1 point guard also received Metro Player of the Year honors from The Dispatch and The Rock Island Argus.
Playing in his final postseason all-star game, Randle chipped in with four points and four rebounds while competing as a member of the North squad during last week's annual All-American Championship in Houston.
That effort came on the heels of another All-Star game appearance in the Senior Showcase All-Star game in Orlando, Fla., where Randle helped direct Team USA to a 102-97 win over the Florida All-Stars. In 20 minutes of action, Randle tallied eight points, eight rebounds, five assists and three steals. He was 4-5 from the field, with his only miss coming on a 3-point attempt.
One of the top combo guard prospects in the country, Randle also won a gold medal with USA's U17 team at the 2010 World Championships in Hamburg, Germany. A member of the AAU squad Illinois Wolves, Randle also attended CP's Point Guard Academy in 2010.
Randle is ranked as country's 11th-best point guard by ESPN.com and 60th-best player overall. Rivals.com has Randle pegged No. 18 among the point guards and listed as the 68th-best senior prospect, while Scout.com has Randle slotted as the nation's 13th-best point guard and No. 60 overall.
