REDWOOD SHORES, Calif. - Stanford men's rowing boats earned splits in their races this weekend at the Stanford Invitational at Redwood Shores.

Despite rowing without senior captain and U.S. Under-23 team member Sebastian Peterlin due to a mild concussion sustained in a bike accident on campus Friday, the Cardinal I Eight recorded a three-second win over Pac-10 opponent Oregon State Saturday before falling to Wisconsin Sunday.

"Our men's team all rallied this weekend after the news of Sebastian's bike accident Friday afternoon," said Stanford men's rowing head coach Craig Amerkhanian. "Racing without one of our senior captains put a great deal of pressure on the 1V, 2V and Frosh/Novice Eight's. Racing our traditional Pac-10 rival Oregon State on Saturday and nationally-ranked Wisconsin on Sunday was extreme in lineups that had not practiced or raced before the invite. Our Stanford men pulled together for a split this weekend. We now have two weeks to get healthy and prepare for the 'Big Row' vs Cal on April 30."

The competition opened up Saturday as the Cardinal II Eight raced to a two-second victory over Oregon State, crossing the line with a finishing time of 6:06.0.

The I Eight would keep the roll going in the morning, winning its own race against its opposite number from Oregon State. The Stanford top boat finished the course in 5:53.0, about 3.1 seconds ahead of the Beavers.

In the Frosh Eight competition, the Cardinal boat would fall to Oregon State, which clocked a winning time of 6:05.6. Yet the Cardinal men would come back with a 14-second victory over Santa Clara to start the afternoon session, winning with a time of 6:47.5.

The frosh would end the day with a third race, falling to Wisconsin.

The I Eight was back in action Sunday morning against Wisconsin, battling the Badger crew but ultimately falling despite a final time of 5:51.4. The II Eight would also finish second to its opposite number from Wisconsin to complete its weekend.
