Cardinal Win PCCSC Team Title, 3rd at Women's National Race

REDWOOD SHORES, Calif. / NEW LONDON, Conn.-- Stanford Sailing won its fourth-straight Pacific Coast Conference Team title, defending its home shores with a win on Sunday, while the women's team placed third amongst the nation's top three teams at the Emily Wick Women's Regatta in Connecticut.

It was the fourth consecutive year the Cardinal have won the team PCCSC title and second-straight weekend it has won a conference title. Stanford won the coed title last weekend and return to Santa Barbara next weekend to defend its title in the women's conference race, when the Cardinal swept all three divisions.

In preparation for the women's race, The Cardinal, ranked No. 12 nationally among the women, finished behind No. 2-ranked Boston College (120 points) and No. 1-ranked Brown (127 points) with 165 points. No. 3-ranked Yale was fourth with 168 points.

Sally Mace and Katie Ricklin had the second-best A Division score with 70 points to Boston College's 60. The duo finished in the top-three in nine of the 16 races, winning three times and finishing second in another four races.

The B Division team of Molly McKinney and Iris Clayter tied for the fourth-best divisional score with 95 points. McKinney skippered the Cardinal to nine top-six finishes.

The team PCCSC title was skippered by Mateo Vargas, Kevin Laube and Oliver Toole, who after going 7-1 on day one, went 4-0 on day two in the double round robin and then swept through the final four with a perfect 3-0 mark.

Amongst the final four teams of UC Irvine (10-5), Hawai'i (9-6) and UC Santa Barbara (6-9), the Cardinal swept through all three teams for a 14-1 combined record over the two days.
