Senior Alex Buscaglia (Oak Brook, Ill. / Cary-Grove High School) of the Stanford men's gymnastics team was selected as the Stanford/Muscle Milk Student-Athlete of the Week for the week of April 11-17.
Buscaglia was one of six seniors that led Stanford to the NCAA title in men's gymnastics. The Cardinal captured its second title in three years and its fifth in program history. The NCAA championship was also the 100th in Stanford Athletics history.Buscaglia was a key part of the team, competing in five events, while Stanford used his score in four events. Buscaglia tied for the top score of the competition on horizontal bar with a 15.400 and then clinched the NCAA title with the top vault of the day, a 16.350.
A day later, Buscaglia won his first NCAA individual title on the horizontal bar, scoring a 15.750. He also competed on parallel bars and vault at the individual finals, earning All-America status for his sixth-place finish on p-bars. He finishes his career as a six-time All-American.
This is the first career Stanford/Muscle Milk honor for Buscaglia. He joins Tim Gentry as the member's of the men's gymnastics team to earn the honor this season.
