ANN ARBOR, Mich. - The Stanford women's gymnastics team finished fourth at the NCAA Ann Arbor Regional and did not qualify its team or any individuals for the NCAA Championships.
Stanford was in second place going into its final rotation, but could not overcome two falls on the balance beam. Stanford finished with 195.225 points, behind qualifiers Michigan (197.075) and Kent State (195.450), as well as Ohio State (195.350). Stanford tied Minnesota (195.225) and beat Iowa State (194.800).
Stanford (21-7-1), competing in its 28th consecutive regional, had a pair of second-place finishes, from sophomore Ashley Morgan and freshman Shona Morgan, no relation.
Ashley Morgan scored 9.90 to finish tied for second on the floor exercise. She scored 9.90 or better on floor in 10 of 11 meets this season.
Shona Morgan tied for second on beam with 9.875, and fellow freshman Kristina Vaculik tied for third on the uneven bars with 9.875. Junior co-captain Alyssa Brown tied for fourth on vault with 9.85.
Senior captain Shelley Alexander was Stanford's top all-around finisher, in seventh at 38.975, coming within two places of an NCAA at-large berth.
