STANFORD, Calif.-- Senior catcher Zach Jones was named Stanford Athletics' Muscle Milk Student-Athlete of the Week after key hits in both of the team's wins over No. 11 UCLA. Jones' three-run home run on Friday, against potential first round pick Gerritt Cole, led to the first win of the series.
On Saturday, Jones' two-run, two-out double tied the game at 4-4 and was a part of a four-run come-from-behind ninth inning in the series clincher over the Bruins.
Jones, who at one point was hitting .128 this season, has driven in 17 runs in Pac-10 play and hit .429 last week in two wins over UCLA and a midweek victory over Santa Clara. Jones, who has thrown out 11 base runners this season, has started all 32 games for the Cardinal.
