STANFORD, Calif.- No. 1 Stanford notched its 11th shutout of the year on Friday afternoon, blanking No. 71 Fresno State 7-0 at the Taube Family Tennis Stadium.
Stepping out of conference play for the first time in two weeks, Stanford (20-0, 6-0 Pac-10) remained unbeaten on the year and has now won 39 consecutive contests overall dating back to a 6-1 loss at UCLA in late February of last year.
Fresno State (6-11, 3-0 WAC) dropped its second straight contest.
Meanwhile, Stanford extended its NCAA-record home winning streak to 177 consecutive matches (145 regular season, 32 NCAA Tournament). The streak spans 12 seasons and is recognized as the longest active home winning streak among all sports in Division I athletics. The Cardinal has not lost at the Taube Family Tennis Stadium since a 5-4 setback against No. 4 California back on Feb. 27, 1999.
The Cardinal was in control throughout the afternoon, setting the tone early by taking the doubles point with wins on all three courts.
Veronica Li's 6-3, 6-0 triumph at the No. 6 spot clinched the win, one of five straight-set victories for Stanford.
Stanford hosts No. 23 Washington on Saturday, April 9, at 12 p.m. Senior Day festivities honoring Hilary Barte, Carolyn McVeigh and Jennifer Yen will take place before the doubles competition.
