STANFORD, Calif.-- Stanford's Kenny Diekroeger is one of 25 shortstops still considered for the Brooks Wallace Award, named for college baseball's top shortstop.
Diekroeger is one of two Pac-10 players on the list, joining Arizona State's Devon Marrero. The sophomore, who was named Academic All-District VIII yesterday thanks to a cumulative 3.6 GPA, is batting .308 heading into the weekend series with the Huskies. Game times are Friday at 6 p.m., Saturday at 2 p.m and Sunday at 1 p.m.
He led the Cardinal last year in batting at .356 with 41 RBIs, earning Pac-10 Freshman of the Year honors. He was named a preseason All-American by both Baseball America and Collegiate Baseball in the preseason and began the year hitting in 20 of 21 games.
