TEMPE, Ariz.-- Jake Barrett (6-3) struck out 10 as No. 7-ranked Arizona State (31-10, 13-5 Pac-10) won the rubber game, following a 7-1 win over visiting No. 21-ranked Stanford (21-16, 6-9 Pac-10) on Sunday afternoon.
Joey DeMichele drove in all five of his runs with three homers, a two-run shot in the first, a solo shot in the fifth and a two-run homer in the seventh. Barrett walked one and scattered seven hits, stranding six Cardinal in scoring position over the first eight innings.
Jordan Pries (4-5) went the first five innings, giving up five runs on eight hits, suffering his fourth-straight weekend loss.
A long looping two-run homer by DeMichele in the first gave ASU a 2-1 lead, before an Austin Barnes RBI single in the second made it 3-1. A Johnny Ruettiger single in the fourth made it 4-1, before DeMichele homered again in the fifth, a solo shot to make it 5-1.
A triple by Tyler Gaffney, followed by a wild pitch, but Stanford on the board in the first. Gaffney finished with a double and triple in the contest.
NOTES Stanford heads to San Jose State for a game at Municipal Stadium on Tuesday at 6 p.m... Stanford is now 2-3 in Pac-10 series this year... Lonnie Kauppila dove for a ball headed up the middle and threw off balanced to first to rob Andrew Aplin of a base hit in the sixth... Jake Stewart ran down a ball in the seventh, catching a long drive against the centerfield wall... the Cardinal host last place Washington next weekend with Friday's game, fireworks night, starting at 6 p.m. Saturday and Sunday's games are at 1 p.m.
