MEN'S QUOTES
No. 1 Steve Johnson (1), USC
"I thought it went pretty well today. It is tough to come out of the crazy team environment with the finals yesterday. I was fortunate enough to come out today and play pretty well. I thought I played the big points really well and was able to get it done in four and two, which was nice."
No. 4 Blaz Rola (5), OHIO STATE
"I knew it was going to be a tough match. Ryan is a really good player and has done great things at Stanford. I came in fully prepared for today's match. We exchanged a lot of breaks and we played a good match, had good points. I'm really happy that I came through."
No. 6 Eric Quigley (7), KENTUCKY
"(Rain delays) are always tough, but it's tough on both players, especially since I was pretty close to finishing. But it's just part of it. I'm excited to get through the first match. He's a tough player."
"I played pretty well. I think it helped me getting to play some here on these courts during the round of 16 and quarterfinals. I was really pleased with my play today, and it's a good first round."
No. 7 Alexandre Lacroix (6), FLORIDA
"I was kind of stressed at the beginning since I hadn't played for four or five days. Its hard in the first round of a tournament to play really good, and even in the second set I was up a break two times and got a little bit nervous. He played really good in the third set, it was a battle. I'm going to take it one match at a time and we'll see tomorrow."
Bradley Klahn, STANFORD
"Jason is a tough out. He is solid and going to make you work. There's always those first round jitters coming into a tournament like this. I started to find my game toward the end of the first and start of the second, and was able to work my way back into the match."
"I"m trying not to think about last year. This is a new year. There are a lot of good players out here. I have confidence winning this tourney knowning I have done this before. I just need to go out there, compete hard and stick to my gameplan. It's nice being at home with the crowd so hopefully that will help out a lot."
Sebastian Fanselow, PEPPERDINE
"I was just trying to play my game and be as aggressive as possible. I was trying to get him moving and get him to the corners of the court. I didn't do as well the first set because I was intimidated by his ground strokes, but then later I was able to do that a little better and try to get him to hit a few more errors. I think that was big. To win is a great confidence booster and I am looking forward to going into the next round. I will just try to do as well as I can."

WOMEN'S QUOTES
No. 1 Jana Juricova (1), CALIFORNIA
"The first match is always really hard. I think I started well. I was just glad I won and played really well today, It was a good match."
No. 2 Maria Sanchez (2), USC
"I felt like I started off a little slow, nerves were there, but then I felt like I worked my way back into the match and felt better and better as the day went on. I felt good by the end."
"It's really exciting to be here. It's my last college tournament, so I'm hoping to do as well as I can."
No. 3 Hilary Barte (3), STANFORD
"I had a really nice rhythm after playing the team tournament. It felt really good, really clean, back on my court, court one. I'm happy to get through to the next round."
No. 4 Denise Dy (4), WASHINGTON
"I think the first round is one of toughest, at least for me. Just getting rid of the nerves and fighting them, especially when there are two rain delays, those nerves just keep building up, but at the same time, I just had to keep calm and keep my composure. That was the most difficult for me today. Thank God I got through."
"Sometimes I forget that I'm the fourth seed. When it comes to the NCAA Tournament, everybody knows the seeds but everybody fights for every point...I'm technically supposed to make it to the semifinals, so hopefully that will happen...But it's been good so far. At the same time, I'm from NorCal, so I'm used to the weather here."
No. 7 Allie Will (6), FLORIDA
"I thought I played really well today; I tried to be a lot more aggressive. I hit my forehand really well. [My opponent] is a really good player but her game suited mine, and we both enjoy our forehands. I just played a really good match today and I'm glad I got the W."
Stacey Tan, STANFORD
"I feel good. It's been a long week with the team tournament and such, but I feel ready for the individual tournament. I think it is good to have a rest with the retirement. Having a little hit or a shorter match was nice today, to get an extra day of rest, sort of."
Lauren Embree, FLORIDA
"I just came out swinging because I didn't want to run as much as I did last night. I was a little bit sore. I played a lot better in the second set and started going for my shots. She played well too. The hardest part was being mentally ready after last night. Everyone out here is fighting and trying really hard, but I just had to mentally prepare myself for another match."
