 MEN'S QUOTES
No. 1 Steve Johnson (1), USC
"Felt like I played pretty well today. Especially after the team competition, I knew yesterday was going to be a tough one. I was fortunate enough to get through that one. I feel like my body's back, healthy and I'm really focused on this tournament again and I felt like I played some of my best tennis again today.

"My body has been so worn out the last two years. This year, I felt like I put in a lot of work off the court to be ready for this - to play deep into the team event and come out and play six days in a row for the individuals. Hopefully, my fitness has gotten so much better. And, I feel healthy, which is the key compared to this year from last year. It's night and day."

No. 5 Michael Shabaz (3), VIRGINIA
"You need a little bit of luck. I was hanging on by a thread. Luckily, I slapped a few returns, and the next thing you know, you get a break point. Then my shoe kind of falls off and then next thing you know I hit another good shot and there's a set. You get a little bit of energy, a little bit of momentum, you're up 3-0, you're serving for it, he rakes back and then you think you're going to lose again. And then you play another good game. It was a roller coaster match.

"I'm so mentally tired from playing so much tennis as of late. It just kind of carries over. The team's very emotional. There's a high. You get an emotional high, especially the way it all ended out. Then, you have to re-energize yourself somehow or throw out whatever's left in the tank for the individuals. It's definitely interesting."

No. 6 Eric Quigley (7), KENTUCKY
"I think I played pretty good today. It was just a few points here and there. Obviously, a few points here or there, and I win the match or he wins the match. He played really good on big points and fought to the end. That was it."

No. 9 Bradley Klahn, STANFORD
"I thought I started off a lot better today - energized and not as sluggish as yesterday. I thought I really played aggressively at the start, kind took it to him, got him off balance a little bit. I was pleased with my play.

"Certainly in the second set, he started finding his game a little more, picked it up, and made me work for that second set. I had some chances to break early on, but stuck with it, especially on my serve. I thought I served well today and that really helped on my return game, to take the pressure off."

"It's certainly hard. I've known Austin for a while. We're good friends and travel together, so that's not easy."

No. 22 Jose Hernandez, NORTH CAROLINA
"In the second set I was up 2-0 and lost 6-2, that's six straight games. I started thinking, just enjoy the tournament. Not everyone gets the privilege to be in the second round in the third set. Whatever happened in the past is in the past. So I just started focusing on the present and try to enjoy the moment and every single point. Trying not to think about what happened in the past, but what I needed to do to get better.

"And it worked. Thank God it worked.

"Thank God I could manage that, and my coach helped me a lot to get that mindset."

"It means a lot to me and to my teammates. It's been a successful year for us and I wanted to thank my teammates for all their support. It's an honor to be in the Sweet 16 and represent my school."

No. 36 Marcel Thiemann, MISSISSIPPI
"This is my fifth time playing him. Last year at this tournament, I was down a set again and in the second set I came back, and won the match. The same thing happened today. I was down four match points. Somehow, I don't know how ... somehow, I got through.

"The difference was that I fought hard the whole time and stuck to my gameplan. I kept playing to my forehand.

"He's an amazing player. He would have deserved it just as much to win."

WOMEN'S QUOTES
No. 1 Jana Juricova (1), CALIFORNIA
"I feel really well. Going into a tournament, the first match is always hard. I felt better today. I trust my game and I think it shows. I'm feeling good and I'm excited for the next matches to come, singles and doubles."

"Obviously, there are some players that I've played so many times that I know really well and some players that I don't know much about. That's when I use the first few games to understand what's the game of the opponent and how I can beat them. It really depends on who I'm playing and, of course, I try not to focus too much on what they're doing."

No. 3 Hilary Barte (3), STANFORD
"I feel good. After a heartbreaking loss in the (team) finals, I'm excited to get back out on the courts and get vengeance.

"The past two years we've gotten to the final as a team and I actually think it's better to go right to the individuals. You're in a rhythm and you're in match mode.

"Using my legs and seeing the ball really cleanly was definitely a focus. As far as the strategy, it's just a simple plan of high execution, because everyone's good."

No. 7 Allie Will (6), FLORIDA
"I thought I played really well today. It was a little windy and I had to move my feet a lot but I used my forehand a lot today and played really well."

"I've actually played [Boxx] twice this year and I knew that she had a really good game and that she was going to try to pressure me, so I tried to move the ball around as best I could, and I came out on top today."

No. 21 Aeriel Ellis, TEXAS
"I was just really smart about the way I played.... Placement, the balls I attacked on and the balls I didn't attack on. I started playing really well in the third set... I was focused more and stopped going for stupid shots I made her play more balls."

No. 25 Chelsey Gullickston, GEORGIA
"To be able to get through yesterday and to get through today, I started off slow and I had a few nerves throughout the match. I wasn't playing my best, but I knew I had to keep my game up and keep fighting because she was a great player. I'm just happy that I was able to move onto the next round."

"I think she played better when we were even pace. The first set I was trying to hit her off the court and she was just coming back with harder balls. In the second and third set I'd mix it up more and change up the speed of balls and give her a different look."
