Sailing in 15th Place after Day One of Women's Nationals

CASCADE LOCKS, Ore.-- Stanford Sailing is in 15th place after the first of two days of racing on the Hood River, an hour outside of Portland, at the women's national championships.

For the Cardinal, who were automatically sent into the final round of 18 following its semifinal and conference finishes, will sail until June 1 with one of three teams. The team championships begin on May 27 and its coed team sets sail on May 30. The women's race runs through Thursday.

Sally Mace skippered the B Division to a 14th place divisional finish with 55 points, while the A Division, skippered by two-time all-conference skipper Eliza Richartz, has 57 points, also 14th in the division.

Richartz' team after a last place and 17th finish over the first three races, has settled down to finish ninth, seventh and 11th to close out the first day for the Cardinal. Mace's two-woman crew had a best finish of seventh over the first four races and finished eighth in the fifth race.
