STANFORD, Calif.- Hilary Barte, Nicole Gibbs and Stacey Tan all won second round matches on Thursday afternoon at the 2011 NCAA Tennis Championships, advancing to Friday's round of 16.
Barte cruised past Arizona State's Kelcy McKenna 6-1, 6-3 for her eighth consecutive win. During that stretch, she has surrendered only six games or fewer combined to her opponent in each match.
Gibbs whipped USC's Danielle Lao 6-2, 6-1 for her team-leading 44th win of the year. One day after winning her first round contest when her opponent retired, Tan had to outlast NC State's Sanaa Bhambri 5-7, 6-3, 6-1 in the next round.
By reaching the round of 16, Gibbs and Tan were awarded All-America status for the first time in their careers.
In doubles action, Barte and Mallory Burdette opened competition with a 6-3, 6-0 rout of Marshall's Michaela Kissell and Dominica Zaprazna.
