STANFORD, Calif.- The singles quarterfinals of the 2011 NCAA Tennis Championships will feature three Stanford participants, as Hilary Barte, Nicole Gibbs and Stacey Tan all posted victories in their matches on Friday afternoon.
Once again dominating her opponent, Barte easily cruised past Maria Mosolova 6-3, 6-2 in the round of 16 for her ninth consecutive victory. During that stretch, she has surrendered only six games or fewer combined in each match.
Tan also won her match in straight-sets, edging Aeriel Ellis of Texas 6-4, 7-6 (6) in her round of 16 contest. Tan will face Baylor's Nina Secerbegovic on Saturday at 1 p.m.
Meanwhile, Gibbs reached the quarters with a gutty 6-3, 6-7 (5), 7-6 (3) victory over Allie Will of Florida. The Cardinal freshman notched her team-leading 45th win of the season, this time besting Will, the nation's sixth-ranked player.
Gibbs' victory sets up an all-Stanford quarterfinal matchup on Saturday against Barte.
In doubles action, Barte and Mallory Burdette rolled into the quarterfinals by taking down Arizona State's Micaela Hein and Kelcy McKenna 2-6, 6-1, 6-4.
Barte and Burdette square off against Georgia's Kate Fuller and Chelsey Gullickson tomorrow at 4 p.m.
