REDWOOD SHORES, Calif.-- Stanford sailors Molly McKinney, Kaitlyn Baab and Eliza Richartz finished 1-2-3 at the Pacific Coast Collegiate Sailing Conference's one-day singlehanded championships.
McKinney will return to the national meet for the second-straight year, as the sophomore edged her freshman teammate, Baab, 11-12 over the six match race. Richartz finished with 14 points.
After finishing behind her two teammates in third place in each of the first two races, McKinney rebounded to win the next three, taking a 9-11 lead into the final race. Baab won the sixth race, but McKinney was second and Richartz, third, to move Baab ahead of Richartz for the final spot at nationals.
Richartz had led after the first four races thanks to three second place finishes and a win in the opening round score, but scored seven points in the final two races to double her score to 14.
The men's singlehanded championships will take place tomorrow on Stanford's home course.
