SEATTLE- Ryan Thacher outlasted California's Ben McLachlan 6-2, 2-6, 7-5 on Tuesday afternoon at the ITA Northwest Regional Championships, collecting the first singles title of his career.
The tournament's No. 1 seed, Thacher had won all of his previous matches in straight sets before putting away McLachlan in three.
In doubles, Stanford's duo of Walker Kehrer and Robert Stineman fell just short in a bid to capture the doubles title, falling 9-8 (8) to California's Carlos Cueto and Ben McLachlan.
The singles finalists and doubles champion from each regional earn berths to the ITA National Intercollegiate Indoor Championships, slated for Nov. 4-7 in Flushing Meadows, N.Y. Winners and finalists from the various ITA Regional Championships around the country, plus at-large selections, will make up the singles field of 32 and the 16-team doubles draw.
