Stanford Overwhelms Central Arkansas 91-52 In Opener

STANFORD, Calif. (AP) - Aaron Bright scored 16 points, one of five players to reach double figures, and Stanford opened the season with a 91-52 victory over Central Arkansas on Friday night.

Freshman guard Chasson Randle scored 15 points, Anthony Brown and Josh Owens each added 13 and Gabriel Harris had 12 for the Cardinal, which has won 22 of its last 24 season openers.

Mark Rutledge scored 16 points to pace the Bears. LaQuentin Miles added 14.

The Cardinal played without sophomore forward Dwight Powell, who sprained an ankle during practice Wednesday.

Stanford took an early lead and never let up against the Bears.

The Bears were limited to just under 21 percent from the floor in the first 20 minutes.

Stanford, which made 14 of its final 17 shots in the half, took a 51-18 lead into the intermission.

NOTES: Stanford last placed five players in double figures on Feb. 26, 2011 during a win at Oregon ... The Cardinal held a 49-24 edge on the glass, including 20 offensive rebounds ... Central Arkansas was limited to just 1-15 shooting from beyond the arc ... Stanford will now compete in the Dick's Sporting Goods NIT Season Tip-Off, which begins next week. Tabbed as the tournament's No. 3 overall seed, Stanford will host first and second round games of the West Regional. The action begins Monday, Nov. 14, when Stanford hosts Fresno State at 8 p.m. in the first round while Colorado State battles SMU in the other game at 5 p.m. The winners of the four regionals advance to Madison Square Garden in New York, N.Y., for the semifinals and finals, slated for Nov. 23 and 25.
